Every Airplaten is built from carbon fiber composite — not PLA, not 3D-printed plastic, not stamped aluminum. Carbon fiber delivers three advantages that directly impact your grinding results:
- Thermal stability. Carbon fiber maintains its shape at temperatures that would soften or warp PLA platens. No more bowed surfaces after a long sharpening session.
- Dimensional precision. Flat platens stay flat. Radius platens hold their curve. The surface you grind against today is the same surface you will grind against in five years.
- Low weight, high rigidity. Carbon fiber is lighter than steel and stiffer than aluminum. Less mass means less vibration transferred to the blade during fine work.
